Video Conferencing is a communication technology that provides the
ability to conduct two-way, interactive, video and audio classes or meetings
in many Wyoming communities. The Division of Outreach Credit Programs in the
Outreach School uses this visual delivery method to provide many distance
education classes to sites around the state. UW Outreach initiates over
15,000 hours of video conferencing per year, offering over 30 classes in
undergraduate and graduate courses. UWTV makes it simple by providing easy
access to facilities not only in Laramie, but in all Outreach Regional
Centers in Wyoming.
Interactive video conferencing is one of University of Wyoming’s most popular distant delivery services. Video conferencing provides the convenience of “face-to-face” meetings, saving time and money. The Outreach School, in partnership with the Wyoming State Division of Telecommunications, operates and maintains the Wyoming Video Conference System (WVCS). WVCS currently serves 88% of the state's population (within 30 miles of a site), serving 31-sites in 21 Wyoming communities.
The University of Wyoming campus is home to three sites of this system:
Scheduling - To schedule a UW video conference, contact Terri Majewski at (307) 766-3071. For non-UW video conferences using WVCS, contact Jennifer Andrade at (307) 777-6531 for scheduling and cost information.
Technical Information – Endpoints at sites maintained by UW are Tandberg 5000 Codecs. The system operates at H.320 standards, using dedicated network T1 ISDN phone lines. State Telecommunications operates and maintains two bridges. For more technical information, contact Jim Petty at (307) 766-2551 at UW Outreach or Jennifer Andrade at (307) 777-6531 at State Telecommunications.
The Wyoming State Department of Education operates and manages a second statewide video conferencing system, the Wyoming Equality Network (WEN). This network connects 91 sites in 86 Wyoming communities. All 78 high schools, every Wyoming community college and the University of Wyoming are also connected through the Wyoming Equality Network.
Coming Soon, I.P. Video Conferencing via the Internet
with H.323.
Stay Tuned.
