LARAMIE, WY (February 14, 2008)— Small businesses, startups, and hobbyists often wish to build a shopping cart system for their websites and keep the maintenance and updates in-house. This spring, the University of Wyoming Community Enrichment Program is offering a Database Shopping Cart Intensive Course, taught by Laura Wheeler.
Wheeler is an experienced Web Developer who specializes in cost effective solutions for small businesses, and has been teaching Web Development Enrichment Courses through the University of Wyoming Enrichment Program since Fall 2007.
"It's about empowering people to succeed with online businesses." Laura stated. "If someone has a product, and a webstore concept, this class can help them make it a reality."
The three session Intensive Course runs 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturdays from February 23 – March 8. The Course counts as 8 of the 12 required to receive a UW Web Design Certificate, and costs $265.
“The class teaches students how to build a cart, promote it, and then how to maintain it long term,” Wheeler says. “Students gain hands-on experience in setting up their web hosting, defining a domain name, installing the cart, and customizing it so that it works the way they need it to.”
Students cover moderately technical skills and concepts. No web experience is required, but a basic understanding of HTML is helpful. Students need to have basic computer skills, such as understanding how to find files on their own computer, and how to use the internet. Course curriculum is geared toward non-technical students overall, and toward small business needs. The cart software is free (keeping setup costs low), and very flexible.
“No two store needs are the same, so each student will be setting up their cart according to their individual business needs,” Wheeler says. “They will learn to prep their product images, and to connect their cart to a payment processor.”
