UW Community Enrichment Offers Home Care/Homeopathy Class

January 12, 2007 --
UW Community Enrichment programs has added Home Care/Homeopathy to its spring class line-up for the first time.  This new class will cover both the theories of this medication form, as well as remedies.

Instructor Shawn Palmer, a Naturopathic Doctor who works at Pendley and Associates, recently graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland, Ore. where he studied Homeopathy for three years. Homeopathy, which is making a comeback, involves giving a patient a single substance to stimulate a healing response.  Doctors strive to prescribe a remedy that fits all of patients’ symptoms.  The goal of homeopathy is to cure both acute and chronic diseases using only a few doses of a remedy.

“This class will be a great learning opportunity and a chance to share my enthusiasm for homeopathy,” said Dr. Palmer.  “This is an area of medicine many people are starting to turn to for their health concerns.  I wanted to teach this class to give the public a chance to better understand it.”

An example of a remedy that will be discussed in this course is Arnica Montana.  This plant is commonly used for bruising due to a soft tissue trauma.  This remedy has been used successfully for bruising after plastic surgery, muscle soreness associated with marathon runners, and in some specific cases recovery from the trauma of chemotherapy.

Participants can learn more about this healing plant as well as several other remedies in the Homeopathy Enrichment class, offered Wednesdays, February 7 through March 7 from 6:30-8:30 pm.  To register or for more information on this class or any of the UW Community Enrichment classes, please contact 307-766-6801 or visit http://outreach.uwyo.edu/enrichment.
