September 1, 2007 (Laramie, WY) -- New UW faculty and their families are encouraged to sign up for one of two Walkabout tours being offered through the Outreach School division of Community Service Education. Thanks to a generous gift by Outreach School Dean, Maggi Murdock, the first 10 spots in both the Vedauwoo and UW Campus tours are free to faculty and their families.
“I think these tours look interesting and fun and the Outreach School will support these tours financially,” said Murdock.
Vedauwoo is the area of fascinating rock formations East of Laramie on I-80. The Vedauwoo tour will provide walkers with historical and practical background to the recreation area and is scheduled for 9:00 am Saturday, September 15. Jim Richard will guide the tour and walkers should meet at Vedauwoo’s first parking lot and check-in at the UW signs.
History Professor Phil Roberts will guide the second walking tour highlighting the University of Wyoming Campus. UW is beautiful during the fall and walkers will take in some amazing sites coupled with the great history of UW’s past 121 years. This tour is scheduled for 9:00 am Saturday, September 22. Walkers should meet at the Family Statue in Prexy’s Pasture.
“Tours are designed to help faculty and their families become more familiar with the University and the surrounding area,” said Murdock.
The free tours are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Ten spots in each tour are available at no-cost to faculty and their families. Non-faculty members and late faculty registrants can enroll in the Walkabout tours for just $12. To take advantage of free registration for either walking tour, call Sheila at (307) 766-6802. General registration for non-faculty members is available online at http://outreach.uwyo.edu/enrichment/travel.asp.
