Health Conferences Combine to Create Wyoming Chronic Disease Conference

March 19, 2008 (Laramie, WY)
—The 2008 Wyoming Chronic Disease Conference will be the first of its kind in Wyoming.  In the past, each Chronic Disease Program has held individual conferences, (i.e. Annual Cancer Conference, Annual Diabetes Conference, Annual Tobacco Prevention and Control Conference). Dr. Brent Sherard, Director and State Health Officer for the Wyoming Department of Health, brought forth a vision to implement a Wyoming conference focused on chronic diseases and common risk factors.

As a result of this vision, the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, the Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program, the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program, the Cancer Surveillance Program and the WDH section for Communicable Diseases came together to provide education and information on chronic disease and chronic disease risk factors in Wyoming

The conference will be held May 7-8, 2008 in Cheyenne, WY at Little America Hotel in the newly renovated conference center. Registration is $110 if received by April 1, 2008, and $140 if received after April 1, 2008.

Speakers for this year’s conference include Dr. Brent Sherard, Director of the Wyoming Department of Health, Captain Zachary Taylor, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. June Dahl, National Pain Management Expert, Dr. Brenda Seals, Executive Director, Native American Cancer Research Corp. among many others.

As part of the conference, participants from non-profit agencies will host a vendor fair with community organizations, and pharmaceutical companies. If you are interested in sponsoring a vendor booth at the conference go to www.health.wyo.gov/phsd/diabetes and click on the link for the vendor letter and form.
