CSE Receives Honorable Mention at LERN

November 27, 2007 (Orlando, FL)
— At the 2007 Annual LERN Convention (lern.org) in Orlando, Fla., the University of Wyoming Outreach School Division of Community Service Education received an Honorable Mention for serving the community with the 2nd annual Dog Day Afternoon.

“We submitted our marketing efforts for the second annual Dog Day afternoon to LERN under the Community Service category,” says Pam Brekken, Marketing Coordinator at CSE.  “CSE created a web page, advertisements in our semester catalog, and calendars available for purchase around town to benefit the Laramie Animal Shelter,” says Brekken.

The University of Wyoming was honored with a display in the Exhibit hall at the LERN convention.  Marketing Assistant, John Scozzafava, attended the Conference in Orlando.

“Attending LERN confirmed a lot of the work I do for CSE,” says Scozzafava. “I am more confident now that we create relevant programming for the Laramie community that you would normally only find at universities in larger cities.”
Over 850 people attended LERN from universities across the United States and Canada.  LERN members administer continuing education and life-long learning programs in their respective colleges.

“There is a huge demand for industry specific certificates and contract training, and CSE has programs in place to meet both of those needs,” says Scozzafava.

LERN speakers originated from across America and as far as London.  Keynote presenter Peter Day, Business Reporter for the BBC in London, was the main presenter.

Day identified some changes sure to challenge educators in the 21st century. Among these challenges is a continued increase in technology use.  In particular, UW can expect online enrollment to increase and Web based classrooms to grow in popularity.

CSE offers an array of online noncredit classes with continual enrollment. To learn more or sign up today visit www.uwyo.edu/outreach/enrichment or contact John Scozzafava at (307) 766-5634 or jscozzaf@uwyo.edu.
