MPA – Master of Public Administration

About the Program
Designed for public servants and traditional pre-career students wishing to enter public service, the non-profit sector, or many other career fields, the master of public administration (MPA) is one of the largest and most successful degree programs delivered through outreach at the University of Wyoming.

The MPA program provides education and training for professionals seeking careers in federal, state, or local government agencies and non-profit organizations (to name only a few). The curriculum covers a broad range of topics including public personnel, public budgeting, organization theory/behavior, administrative theory, ethics, administrative law, organization development, intergovernmental relations, and public policy on subjects such as environmental policy, public lands policy, local government policy, and health policy.

The curriculum requires 39 credit hours of course work and is divided into three sections: required core, optional core, and elective tracks. An internship is required of students who do not yet have administrative experience.

ATTENTION MPA STUDENTS: In general, any course at the 4000 or 5000 level is acceptable as an elective in the MPA program—providing the course itself may be used in a graduate program (a few education college exceptions exist) and its content provides professional development for the student and/or deals with a topic connected to public administration. Students should consult with the MPA director before finalizing their choices.

Delivery Method:
Video conferencing and intensive days/weekends

Tuition & Fees:
Graduate tuition per credit hour + fees, textbooks, and packets
