Land Surveying

About the Program
Successful completion of 24 hours of land surveying certificate courses through the Division of Outreach Credit Programs will earn a student a certificate of study in land surveying from the University of Wyoming.

These courses were developed in 1991 for surveyors and other students who could not attend class on the UW campus. The classes are tailored to those site-bound students who would benefit from the knowledge gained from course content. In addition, they may satisfy state board requirements for surveying education in either the licensing process or continuing education for maintaining an existing license. Contact the board in your state regarding acceptability of these courses for your particular needs.

Surveying is a field intensive area of study; therefore, students enrolling in these courses should have practical knowledge and experience in surveying. Students lacking these skills will be required to obtain them in some manner (such as field experience or participation in course labs) before the certificate will be issued.

The certificate program provides students who have previously earned degrees from other institutions to take these courses without having to pay the increased tuition associated with graduate study. The certificate may also allow students to qualify for financial assistance from institutions such as Veterans Administration loans.

Please note: The surveying courses may be considered by state boards for continuing education for licensed land surveyors. Contact your state board for guidelines.
