Early Childhood Birth to Five Endorsement

About the Program
The Early Childhood Birth to Five Endorsement program is available to undergraduate students enrolled in the child development option of the Family and Consumer Sciences program or students in the elementary education program. A graduate-level endorsement program is also available to graduates with a degree in child development or elementary education, students in the post graduate early childhood special education endorsement program, and for graduates with a degree in a related field.

Upon completion of the Early Childhood Birth to Five Endorsement program, students will be proficient in five standard areas:

  • Promoting child development and learning
  • Building family and community relationships
  • Observing, documenting, and assessing to support young children and families
  • Teaching and learning
  • Becoming a professional

There are seven required courses for the undergraduate and graduate level endorsement programs. In addition to the required coursework, the student will successfully complete a common assessment for six of the seven courses in order for a recommendation to be made to the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) for certification.
