Terry Reid - Oil Painting

Terry R. Reid is an artist living and working in Laramie, WY since June 1985. He was born at Ft. Deavens army hospital in Ayer, Massachusetts, (the building is still there, but the army base isn’t); he’s the eighth child in a family of nine. His family moved west, via Laramie, to Tacoma, Washington where he spent his childhood. Today he lives close to downtown Laramie in the house his great-grandparents built around 1900. Since graduating with a B.S from the University of Wyoming Sociology Department in 1995, he has yet to actually work in that field; fortunately, he also received a minor in art that has been more than sufficient to propel him into a fulfilling career in teaching painting to adults. He has been creative since childhood; his oil paintings focus mainly on the human form through portraiture, impressionism, and symbolism, but he is also known for his recent landscapes and still-lives. He’s been involved for years in promoting the struggling local art scene, organizing exhibits for local artists at coffee houses and cafes, as well as showing his own work extensively in and around Laramie and the region. He has served as art editor for the UW literary arts journal, Owen Wister Review, and briefly published Gamut’s Northern Front Arts Online. He is a member of the SOCIETY OF FIGURATIVE ARTISTS [SOFA] of Laramie, WY.
