The University of Wyoming Summer Music Camp was begun in 1943 as the University of Wyoming Band Clinic. Since that time, choirs and orchestras have been added along with side bands for a truly comprehensive musical experience. Campers also have the option of taking additional small ensembles and classes that will expand their musical knowledge and enrich their experience while at the University of Wyoming. The University of Wyoming is situated in the city of Laramie in the beautiful Laramie Valley between the Snowy Mountain Range and the Laramie Hills. Days are rarely hot, and evenings are cool. Known at one point as "The Coolest Summer Camp in the United States," the UWSMC is a wonderful place to learn and make music in an efficiently structured and effectively supervised environment.
A few camp scholarships are available, and those interested are welcome to call (307) 766-5127 to talk to director, Chris Nicholas. Another route for scholarships may come from your local music organizations (Music Boosters, Choral Societies, etc.) or fraternal/charitable organizations (JayCees, Knights of Columbus, Rotary clubs, Women's clubs, Lions Clubs, etc.). You are encouraged to seek out this route of funding wherever possible.
