Home for the Holidays
Thanks to many generous donations during the holiday season, life was better for the homeless animals in Laramie. The annual Animal Shelter donation box at Beta House collected over 100 lbs. of food and treats, blankets, toys, beds, bowls, sweaters, leads, brushes and kennels. Several departments across campus joined together to help make the drive a howling success. All the treasures were delivered to the shelter in time to make the cold, lonely days of December a little warmer and brighter. The staff at Beta House and all the animals appreciate your kindness.
Survey Software a Success
The UW Conference Department is pleased to announce the positive results we have had on satisfaction and learning assessment surveys.
This is a very progressive evaluation service utilizing a state of the art computer software program. This program collects and summarizes post conference input solicited from conference attendees via computer in the convenience of their own office or home. Participants are provided a URL that allows access to a survey that is customized to the group needs. We have incorporated specific learning assessment questions along with specific questions from the sponsors. Participants are asked to respond to a combination of multiple choice, single answer or essay questions within a specified period.
Clients requesting this service for their conference are finding that the participation level is much higher and the comments are more detailed than previously experienced with the manual method (paper handout completed and collected on site). A big reason that this service is becoming so popular with conference directors and participants alike is the flexibility available to the director in formatting questions and the convenience of when and from where the respondent provides input. Additionally, the client receives a copy of the summarized final report in one to two weeks (allowing for participant response time) after the event is completed. Our customers are finding the report of great use in preparing reports on Return On Investment (ROI) and, in turn, are changing future conference formats to address any areas of minimal interest or learning.
For additional information on this and other services that are available from the Outreach School, Office of Conferences & Institutes, please call Sheila at 766-5641.

Online Home Room
With the start of the New Year, it is a great time to reflect on the accomplishments of 2005. Enrollment for noncredit online classes steadily increased throughout the year. We are proud to announce that 2005 ended on a high note with the fall enrollment increasing 43% compared to the same time last year.
A majority of the enrollments came from across the state of Wyoming, although this fall we also had students from Colorado Springs, Colo., Washington D.C., Anchorage, Alaska, and Acton, Mass.
It is not uncommon for our students to take more than one class from us due to the valuable information they learn from each class. In fact, 31% of our students have come back to take another online class once completing their first one.
“I am very happy with the information I received from the classes and use some of the techniques daily,” said Riley Prisock, a two-time Ed2Go student. “I found the classes to be very helpful and I will be back for more.”
We are still using the same two online vendors for our classes: Gatlin Education and Education2Go. The Gatlin Education classes are online certificate programs and include classes such as Pharmacy Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Medical Transcriptions, Graphic Design, Paralegal Certification, as well as several others. A complete listing of the classes available can be found at
www.gatlineducation.com/uwyo.
Ed2Go features over 300 courses with new classes being added each month. Some of the newer classes from this fall include Mystery Writing, Creating Web Pages II, PhotoShop for the Digital Photographer, Introduction to Adobe FrameMaker, Making Movies with Windows XP, SAT/ACT Preparation Course, Creating a Home Network, and Introduction to FreeHand MX. Ed2Go offers a wide variety of courses. Please go to www.ed2go.com/uwyo to see a complete list.
The New Year is all about making new resolutions and learning new things. Our noncredit online classes can fit into any busy schedule. Learn a new software program to give yourself the upper hand for a promotion or new job, get a certificate in the field of your interest, or just take a class to learn a new hobby. There is sure to be an online class that can fulfill any of your needs. For more information on any of the classes we offer, please contact Abi Gerhard at (307) 766-5634 or abi@uwyo.edu. Happy New Year!
