NEWSLETTER - Summer 2004 - (Volume 7 Issue 2) The Many Faces of Outreach
As we reach the halfway mark of the first year of the University of Wyoming 2004-2009 Academic Plan, it’s time to review how our programming is rising to the challenge this summer. Summer programs include:
Teacher Training includes trips for PTSB credit in our summer enrichment catalog; institutes, such as the nursing summit, pharmacy association conference, early childhood conference and health education summer institute. We assist in coordinating all of these events. Business Development - We are coordinating the Governor’s Summit on Workforce Development in Jackson this summer, are meeting with community colleges to discuss marketing needs, and assisting in information for a statewide training web site. The History and Culture of Wyoming is represented by classes and events we are coordinating this summer including the 2nd Annual Volksmarch, a tour of the Jelm Mountain Observatory, and several trips that encompass information on Wyoming trails, Wyoming settling, and Fort Laramie. Supporting and Enhancing the Learning Environment is represented through our new scholarship program for children up to 16 years of age for enrichment classes. Scholarships will be awarded beginning in summer. Assessment of Student Learning and Needs by using the results of two surveys we conducted for nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses. We have developed new training opportunities for nonprofits, which can be viewed by visiting outreach.uwyo.edu/conferences/srni, and developed a site for businesses interested in online noncredit skills-based training, which can be viewed by visiting outreach.uwyo.edu/conferences/bizhelp Graduate Education is supported by the various types of test preparation classes we offer. This fall we will be offering GRE prep both as an online class and on the compressed video network system. Diversity, Internationalization & Access - Take a look at our Culture and Conversation program, on the back page, that is directed to various age groups from around the world. Read about the trip to Kenya in the featured conferences section. Of course, along with these various types of programming, we are making plans for UW’s new education and conference center, addressing the certificate market, and taking advantage of various professional development opportunities. If you have questions about any of our programming, call me at 766-5641. I’d be glad to give you further details, and even explore new programming that you may suggest! Have a great semester.
