NEWSLETTER - Fall 2002 - (Volume 5 Issue 3)

Cruising Into Fall

Whew, what a summer! We got through the Episcopalian youth conference that resulted in 1500 campus visitors, all the camps - music, athletics, cheerleading, dance, 4-H youth leadership, the first local veterinary conference, a project learning group, school leadership, Wear law Institute, a fund raising institute.... and that is just the groups we worked with! Kudos to all the great UW folks that put up with us, make us look good, and solve our problems with a smile - you are the greatest!

This fall, we are continuing to maintain the momentum by our contract with the Substance Abuse Division, promoting new noncredit online offerings as well as working with the Wyoming Department of Employment, hosting such local conferences as Cooperative Extension events, running Elderhostel programs, and offering repeat and new enrichment classes.

Be sure to join us for upcoming events - conferences, advisory meetings, open houses and more Check throughout this newsletter for details and dates.

Have a great semester.
Sheila Atwood, Division Head

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.

Saddle Up Partner
Ever wonder what it’s like deep within an underground trona mine? Do spirits haunt the old state penitentiary at night? How do people live on the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming?

Experience all of these things and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the magnificent Tetons during the fifth Wyoming Rendezvous Tour Oct. 17-20. The bus tour, free to University of Wyoming faculty and staff, will take participants to the Wind River Indian Reservation, Jackson Hole, Rock Springs and Rawlins. All hotel accommodations and meals are provided to tour participants, courtesy of UW sponsors such as the Office of the President and University Libraries.

The tour was organized in 1998 to give UW faculty and staff an opportunity to visit Wyoming and gain an appreciation for the geography, cultures and economy of the state. The tour also gives state residents and community leaders an opportunity to meet and become better acquainted with UW faculty and staff, and to share personal and professional interests.

Participants will meet with county legislators and tribal leaders, and tour the General Chemical underground trona mine, local high schools, and the old and new state penitentiaries. For more information about this fall’s tour, call Milton Ontiveroz, University Public Relations, at 766-6709, or e-mail: miltono@uwyo.edu
