10 Tips of Christmas Event Planning
Holiday Tip #1: Celebrate Diversity - Feature different ethnic holiday folds at the event and explain the significance as it relates to the practicing culture.
Holiday Tip #2: Icy Accents – Since the holidays are often symbolized with ice and snow, you can add these accents to your event no matter what climate you reside in. Set an actual standing bar make out of ice for a real conversation piece. If you have a smaller budget, order an ice martini luge where guests can get a cool shooter. You can even customize ice table centerpieces.
Holiday Tip # 3: Karaoke– Most people may be shy when it comes to participating in singing Christmas Carols if they don’t know the lyrics. Setup the caroling as a karaoke event where the words are featured on a screen. Give away prizes for the best performance, best voice, and best duet.
Holiday Tip #4: Egg Nog – This mysterious drink only comes out during the holidays. Feature an Egg Nog assembly bar at the event. Everybody starts with a glass half full of Egg Nog and they can add whatever ingredients they wish. Ingredients can include nutmeg, cinnamon, various liqueurs, etc.
Holiday Tip #5: The Spirit of Giving – In view of the many natural disasters that have unfortunately transpired globally in the last year, consider giving donations instead of gifts this holiday season. Choose your favorite charity relief effort and forward cards stating that a donation has been made on behalf of the recipient.
Holiday Tip # 6: Know Your Guests – Don’t hire a band if your guests usually socialize. Entertain them with a stage show such as a comedian, magician, hypnotist or mind-reader.
Holiday Tip # 7: Wine Tasting – Host a wine tasting reception as an original holiday activity. It can be themed to a particular country, a wine region, a food & wine pairing, or even a holiday mood. For larger events, keep it informal. A wine expert can address your group for a brief overview at the beginning but then continue to circulate at different tasting stations.
Holiday Tip # 8: Switch Up the Entertainment – Have a jazz band for cocktails & dinner, a magician for walk around magic during cocktails, and a musical act or DJ for dancing. For more exotic fun, you can have caricature artists, a hand writing analyst and/or palm readers for those not dancing.
Holiday Tip # 9: The Early-Bird Gets the Best Party – Whatever you plan, plan it early! Those who wait too long usually are disappointed with what is available late in the season. Good talent books up early and the best venues are taken well in advance. So, the best time to contract services, venues, etc, is the time you decide you’re having a party! Don’t procrastinate, CELEBRATE!
Holiday Tip # 10: A Theme That Will Go Further – Challenged to develop a holiday event that’s both fun and economical? Tired of “traditional” or another evening cocktail party? Why not create a one-of-a-kind theme luncheon event that will draw from holiday pop culture instead? Consider such tongue-in-cheek ideas as “Frosty the Snowman Freezes Holiday Fun” or “Charlie Brown’s Dead-As-A-Doornail Christmas Bush” as witty ways to have fun at the “expense” of budget cuts. Better yet, why not “The Grinch That Stole The Budget”?
